Every year we make and send a Christmas/New Year’s holiday card to our family and friends here in the Netherlands. And Gigi, my wife, never wants to send an off-the-shelf card. So she drags me into the fray to make one.
It usually goes something like this:
Gigi (my wife) on December 1st: Jibran, I want to make a Christmas card.
Me: Go ahead, honey.
Gigi: …I need you to help me.
Me: I don’t have time.
[Two weeks pass]
Gigi: Jibran, grab the camera and help me take some photos for the Christmas card.
At this point, it’s not a question anymore, but a command. And who am I to say no?
This year, however, the kids and I thought of an idea for a Christmas card before Gigi commanded me to take photos with her for it.
It went a bit like this:
Me: Ok Bran, Daisy, help me think of a fun Christmas card we can send to everyone.
Bran: A horror Santa!
Daisy: Haha, yeah, haha! He’s gonna eat us!
So I grabbed the camera and took pictures of the kids running away from an imagined Santa.
Then Gigi got home from her pilates or yoga or something like that, and the kids and I told her what the Christmas card would be like. Gigi grudgingly said, “Ok then.” (Probably happy that a card was finally gonna be made.) After which she laid down on the ground as if eaten or killed by Santa.
With all the pictures I needed, I went to work with Open AI’s Dall-E and Midjourney to create the card above.
“Een smakelijk 2023” means “A tasty 2023.” And on the back, we wished everyone a playful 2023. (Hoping this card is a good representation of play. ;-) )
So, everyone, have a good, tasty, and playful 2023! 😘
